What is the cost?

The total cost of camp is $210 dollars per child. SLW offers a scholarship for children if there is financial need for half of this cost upon request. Please contact Amy Boland at aboland@slwchurch.org if you are in need of financial assistance in order to send your kids to camp. Payment must be turned in by Sunday, May 19th along with your child’s registration form. Any checks should be made to “Sandy Lake Wesleyan Church” with the memo “2019 Kids Camp Fee.”

All camp counselors who plan to attend with our kids will go for free.

Why Western PA Wesleyan Kids Camp?

The Western Pennsylvania district of the Wesleyan Church hosts a kids camp each summer just for the kids within our district! One of the major benefits of this camp is that we get to send our own leaders with the kids, so that our children have awesome shared experiences with leaders who they can continue to connect with at SLW when they return. All our kids also get to attend camp together the same week, so that they all come back with wonderful learning and growing experiences that they were able to share together.

In addition, our youth also participate in a Youth Camp that is just for the Western PA Wesleyan youth each summer! With our kids attending the district camp, they will already know many other kids from our district when they move up to youth camp later on too!

Where do my kids stay and how are the kids grouped?

The kids will stay in cabins at Camp Harmony, with five kids and one adults per group in each cabin. Boys and girls will have separate cabins. The kids are kept very busy within their groups the first night to help them jump right into camp, and to help kids who may be prone to homesickness. Cabin mate requests can be made, and will be given consideration when placing kids into cabin groups.

Throughout camp, there will be many games where the kids are teamed up by color!

Who are the camp counselors?

Camp counselors are all adults from our area district churches. There is at least one Senior Counselor for every five children. There are also LITES (Leaders in Training) who are youth ages 16-18 who assist the Senior Counselors and are also assigned to a group of kids in addition to the Senior Counselors. All counselors 18 years and older are required to have a Criminal Record Clearance, and a Child Abuse Clearance prior to serving as a counselor.

Who is the camp speaker?

Our camp speaker is Pastor Chris Claassen. Pastor Chris currently is the Children’s Pastor at Watermark Wesleyan Church, just south of Buffalo, NY. He has enjoyed being a children’s pastor for almost 20 years, which means that he has been slimed and silly stringed numerous times. He has a passion to help kids know that God wants to be with them now and forever. Pastor Chris is very excited about the camp this summer, and can’t wait to see how God will show up and how He will move in the lives of the kids and leaders.

We can’t wait to hear the awesome lessons he has to share with the kids this year at camp!

What are drop off and pick up times & dates?

Arrival will be Monday, June 17 at 1:00pm. Departure will be Friday, June 21 at 1:00pm. You will be responsible for bringing your child and picking up your child on these days. We do try to car pool so that not everyone is driving separately both ways.

How do I register my child?

If you are interested in having your child attend camp this year, please fill out a registration form (updated registration forms coming soon). Both a Registration form and a Health History form are required to be filled out and returned. Please return all forms and payment to Amy Boland by Monday, May 21st.

After your registration is sent in with all SLW’s registrations, you will receive confirmation along with more camp details from the Western PA Wesleyan Kids Camp Director.
